In what looks like a big moment in the development of Chinese video-on-demand, Chinese retail giant the Alibaba Group has teamed up with Walt Disney to launch a new OTT called DisneyLife.
Launched today, DisneyLife features a vast collection of Disney and Pixar movies, animation series, games, e-books, songs, travel services and Disney theme parks and resorts info.
The Mickey Mouse-themed device is available for pre-sale via Tmall and will cost RMB799 (USD125.00), which includes a one year subscription of DisneyLife of a base package.
“As we deliver on our goal to meet the needs of a consumers’ daily life, DisneyLife… will provide the only holistic and trusted family friendly digital destination in China,” explains Mr. Wei Ming, Co-President of Youku Tudou Business Group and General Manager of Alibaba Digital Entertainment Business Unit.
Subscribers can access their favorite Disney merchandise, as well as information about Hong Kong Disneyland and the Shanghai Disney Resort when it opens in 2016.
