Fernando Secali, VP Engineering and Operations, ON TELECOM, Brazil is taking part in a panel discussion entitled “Ultra-Broadband Services or Options”, taking place on Day 2 of the Broadband LATAM conference, taking place on 3rd– 4th June 2014 at the Amcham, São Paulo, Brazil.
How are new services such as 4K video going to affect how you engineer your network in the future?
The services of video transmission at very high resolution (4K) should not influence our projects over the next 12 months because they demand high capacity, and the utilization /occupancy per LTE cell would be very high. It would certainly be unfavourable compared to the optical network.
Considering the cost per gigabyte could your customers replace a fixed-line with your service?
It would be very difficult for a user to replace a fixed line with LTE due to consumption being in the order of gigabytes. Fixed-line services and wireless LTE are not competing, they are complementary.
Compared to your competitors what the unique selling point of your network?
The advantages of our product are directly linked to the agility of facilities available – speeds, quality of installation and service level.
What steps are you taking to preserve speeds as customers come on board your service?
Controlling the number of users per sector according to the contracted capacities and preserving the level and the quality of service contracted.
What are the biggest challenges you expect to face in the next 12 months?
The main challenge will be how to increase our customer base at the current rate.
What are you most looking forward to with regard to the Broadband LATAM conference?
I am most looking forward to exchanging experiences with others services providers and learning about updates about new technologies and new trends in telecom market, especially in the field of 4G.
